Some of God's Characteristics

Authority over all – the Judge

For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. John 5:26-27 NKJV

So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Romans 14:12 NKJV

And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. Colossians 1:17 NKJV

Eternal

Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. Psalms 90:2 NKJV

Holy

For I am the LORD your God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy. Leviticus 11:44 NKJV

"No one is holy like the LORD 1 Samuel 2:2 NKJV

as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY." 1 Peter 1:15-16 NKJV

Immutable (cannot change)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 NKJV

And, "You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end. Hebrews 1:10-13 ESV

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Infinite

"But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built! 1 Kings 8:27 NKJV

Just

Your righteousness is righteous forever, and your law is true. Psalms 119:142 ESV

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king [Jesus Christ the Messiah] is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9 ESV

And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children to the third and the fourth generation." And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile 1 Peter 1:17 ESV

Love

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:8 NKJV

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Romans 8:35 NKJV

Merciful

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us Ephesians 2:4 NKJV

Omnipotent (all powerful)

Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty [omnipotent - παντοκράτωρ] reigns. Revelation 19:6 ESV

"Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? Jeremiah 32:27 NKJV

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 NKJV

Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. Psalms 33:8 NKJV

Omniscient (all knowing)

Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite. Psalms 147:5 NKJV

For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.1 John 3:20 NKJV

Omnipresent (all places)

Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?" says the LORD; "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" says the LORD. Jeremiah 23:24 NKJV

Singular

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! Deuteronomy 6:4 NKJV

I am the LORD, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. Isaiah 45:5 NKJV

Sovereign

"I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. Genesis 17:1 NKJV

Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me. Isaiah 46:9 NKJV

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: "I am the LORD, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself; Isaiah 44:24 NKJV

Transcendent

He said to them, "You are from below; I [The Lord Jesus Christ] am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. John 8:23 ESV

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah 57:15 NKJV
